However, if I one more person compares African slavery to immigration, I will hit them. Plain and simple.
Slavery DOES NOT equal immigration.
And since some people seem to not understand that fact here are the dictionary definitions of both words & their roots:
Slavery - 1. the state or condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his life, liberty, and fortune. 2. the subjection of a person to another person, esp in being forced into work. 3. the condition of being subject to some influence or habit.
- Root word = Slave - 1. a person who is the property and wholly subject to another; a bond servant. 2. a person entirely under the domination of some influence or person.
Immigration - 1. the movement of non-native people into a country in order to settle there. 2. the act of immigrating.
- Root word = Immigrate - 1. to come to a country of which one is not native, usually for permanent residence. 2. to pass or come into a new habitat or place, as an organism.
While both definitions involve a non-native person living in another country, slavery is clearly out of force & the immigration is clearly out of choice.
I hope that cleared up any confusion that people seem to have.
